_ A very successful Public hearing of the
Administrative Order 2010-0034 and CEMT Resolutions was carried out in Bacolod
City last January 20, 2012 with the effort of the Philippine Association of
Licensed Massage Therapist (PALMT) and Spa Alliance of Negros Occidental
(SPAN).
The event was shored up by Bacolod city Spa owners and massage practitioners who deligently listened and shared their thoughts in the conduct of the open forum pertaining the existing Rules and Regulations governig the practice of Massage Therapy in the country.
Dr. Kenneth Ronquillo, chairman of the Committee of Examiners for Massage Therapy (CEMT) emphasized the goal of the DOH in professionalizing massage therapy and building the skill as a viable and decent career to the practitioners. He also underlined the moratorium for existing SPA/Massage establishments which will end in December of 2014, that all massage practitioners will be licensed under the Department of Health. He also reiterated the CEMT resolutions pertaining to the Revalidation of License not renwed for at least five years and the suspension of “High school diploma” as requirement for Massage thereapy licensure examination for year 2012.
In line with the concern of massage practitioners who can hardly afford the scholastic cost for the licensure, the PALMT in collaboration with the DOH-CEMT and Accredited Training Institutions created a scholarship program for members of spa and wellness associations in the country which includes Health and Wellness Association Inc. (HAWAI) of Iloilo city and Spa Alliance of Negros Occidental (SPAN) of Bacolod City. All establishments engaged in the practice of massage are encouraged to join associations in their locality in order to avail the said scholarship grant that could greatly help their workers.
Shortly after the Public hearing, the Oath taking ceremony for seventy one (71) Newly Licensed Massage therapist was conducted. Forty one (41) therapists are from Remnant Institute of Alternative Medicine Inc. who sent the highest number of examinees in region VI for DOH licensing conducted last December 2010 garnering 83% passing rate and accumulating one of the national top percentage rank for the past 3 years.
